Bri Watson

My name is Bri Watson, I'm a PhD. student at UBC's iSchool focusing on equitable cataloging in archives, libraries, and museums. I have a MLIS from Indiana University and a a MA from Drew University focusing on the history of sexuality and of the book.

Relevant Projects

I have been involved with numerous controlled vocabulary overhauls and classification initiatives to improve description in Indigenous institutions and collections, including leading a major revision of the Brian Deer classification for the Union of BC Indian Chiefs. The schema was a starting point for the Indigenous Materials Classification (IMC) which was developed a little later. I plan to do a new version of the Deer / IMC for the Museum of Anthropology at UBC with a focus on material culture and global in scope in the not too distant future.
